Supreme Court Summer Institute
Street Law, Inc.
and the Supreme Court Historical Society will sponsor two
sessions of the annual Supreme Court Summer Institute, June
14-19 and June 21-26, 2012. The Institute is open to secondary
level social studies teachers & supervisors, who will spend five
stimulating days on Capitol Hill and inside the Supreme Court
learning about the Court, its past and current cases, and how to
teach about them from top Supreme Court litigators & educators.
Attendees will also be in the Court to hear the Justices
announce the final decisions of the term and attend a private
reception at the Court. For full information and to apply

Encourage students to

First Amendment Cartoon Contest.

theme of this year’s contest is
Free Expression through the “rights of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of
grievances.”
These rights are particularly significant in this an era of
protest both in the United States and around
the world.

iCivics (formerly Our Courts) is a web-based education project
designed to teach students civics and inspire them to be active
participants in our democracy. iCivics is the vision of Justice
Sandra Day O'Connor, who is concerned that students are not

and support.

The National Archives DocsTeach

The
Library of Congress "Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Direct"
The Library of
Congress has an online resource for educators – “Teaching with
Primary Sources Direct.” TPS Direct enables educators to
integrate primary sources into their classrooms by creating
customized lesson plans based on documents and artifacts from
the Library’s extensive collections. Applicable across grade
levels and content areas, this project allows educators to
search the TPS database for content-rich activities.
